Your children are invited to wear Pink tomorrow!
Everyone has a role to play in promoting healthy relationships and creating positive social environments that prevent bullying in our schools, communities and workplaces. Alberta Education defines bullying as a conscious, willful, deliberate, repeated and hostile activity marked by an imbalance of power, intent to harm and/or threat of aggression. It can be verbal, social, physical, or cyber-bullying. Bullying is not a normal part of growing up, and does not build character. At Rosscarrock School we effectively deal with pre and bullying types of behavior in class, office, CBE supports and parents through education and consequences. Ways for parents to prevent bullying:

Derek is the Star of the Week this week! We are excited to learn more about him.
This week is bullying awareness week and we hope to raise awareness through kind acts all week. We will be planning something with our Big Buddies this week to show the school we can be leaders in anti-bullying. We hope everyone can wear pink on Wednesday to support this. This is the official "Bullying Awareness- Wear Pink Day!" Reminder to sign up for Parent-Teacher Interviews for this Thursday- Friday. This means no school on Friday! Please come with any questions or concerns you may have. Thanks! Today we had a lovely, Remembrance day assembly with the whole school. It was a filled with music, reflections, and performances by the student body. The kids took part in a song the had been practicing, and were very respectful of the speakers and time of silence. Thank you!
After we talked about how it made us feel and most of the class felt a little sad, but that is good to reflect on too. Continuing the conversations are home would be a great idea. The concept can be abstract for them, but talking about peace in our world is a nice connection. This afternoon we did liquid and ocean art and experiments. We are looking at more properties of water and made an ocean in a bottle with food colouring, water and oil. We also tested objects for buoyancy in our oceans. It was a nice time of inquiry. We also made art to show off at parent-teacher conferences. See link below to book in next Thursday and Friday. Have a great weekend.I apologize if home reading didn't get switched, it was an out of routine day. Thanks! Please follow this link to access the School Conference. Library books due tomorrow. Thanks! Today was a cold one! But a good one. We learned lots about Canadian symbols especially those related to Nova Scotia. We looked at our money since the dime has a Blue Nose on it- found in Nova Scotia. Also, lighthouses are also very important to Nova Scotia so we looked at the names of the parts of a lighthouse and guessed how many there are in the province. Rayshaan got it bang on with his guess of 150! Great job Rayshaan!
Tomorrow is Big Buddies and we will be making poppies with them for the Remembrance day assembly on Friday. Our class with be performing a song for the school. Also, please bring in your toys that you would like to donate to Stephen's Backpack fund! See yesterdays post for more info. Thank you! Starting today our school will be undertaking a project called, “Stephen’s Backpack”. Stephen’s Backpack Project is about giving the gift of hope. Stephen is a little boy with Autism who wanted to help all the homeless children of Calgary. He created a project where he, with the help of others, would fill backpacks with essentials and toys for children living on the street. His wish is to give children the gift of hope and Student Voice is going to help lead this project.
From November 7, 2017-November 17, 2017 we are asking families to bring gently used toys and books to donate to a Toy Sale. This toy sale will provide the funds to purchase the items for the backpacks. We will store all these items in the school until the sale. On November 21, we will have an all-day Toy Sale. This is where all students, during their gym time will have a chance to go shopping. Items will vary in price (up to $10.00), and all the money will go toward filling the backpacks. Thank you for your support. Student Voice Today was a cold one! We had indoor recess and lunch today. The students completed their neighbourhood maps and they look awesome! I am excited to share them come interviews!
We also did a ccience experiment this afternoon about absorbency! Fancy new word! We also looked at density and reviewed buoyancy. Lots of new words filling the room. Monday morning Alberta Opera will be here. We are excited to see them perform for us! Have a great weekend. |
