Everyone looked awesome today! Thanks for all the effort and planning put into costumes. It was great to see them in action. Today we did some spookier learning; we designed a town called Dungeon Town and added lots of spooky features on the East and West sides of the town. We practiced our spooky words, and learned more about pumpkins. We discovered that pumpkins float because of the air inside them! Surprising to some of us since they are quite heavy. We also tested shells for buoyancy.
This afternoon we had full grade 1/2- 3 classes- activity zones. We did Halloween art in my class, technology games in Ms. Johnson's class, and skill building challenges in Ms. Mosolf's. It was a great success. Have fun and be safe tonight, I hope the weather gets better! Also, this is a friendly reminder to leave candy at home. Thank you! Picture retakes on Friday, November 3

Just a few reminders about tomorrow. - Wear your costumes to school, please don't bring them to change into -Make sure there are no masks, or costume items that interfere with learning -No candy please, but if you would like to bring something to share, consider fruit or vegetables or pencils. These things are not necessary, but just in case you would like to. Thanks in advance! - Please let your child know that school is still a place of learning and we will be continuing educational activities, just a little bit spookier than usual:) Also, Hockey Highlights will be posted tonight! Stay tuned! Don't forget to bring Home Reading everyday, if possible! Thanks for your help with this. ![]()
Today was everything pumpkin day!
We looked at the pumpkin with our 5 senses, we measured it with cubes and pipe cleaners, we drew a picture of it, we wrote stories of magical pumpkins, made clay pumpkins and looked at the life cycle of pumpkins! It was a learning frenzy! The students all were very engaged, and curious about pumpkins. Keep the conversation going at home! This morning we also got to go to the gym for the grade 5/6 celebrations of learning. We saw our big buddy class there presenting their work. We learned about trees, books, and even saw their simple machines at work. It was very inspiring especially to see our big buddies proud of their learning. Next week our Star will be Mayson! Yay! We are excited to learn about you. Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather! First off, Thanks to Aunt Gayle, Daxton J's Aunt, for coming in and reading with us today! She will be coming in every Thursday and working with our reading groups. We loved having her today and look forward to her time on Thursdays :)
Today, we also had Thursday theatre and did nursery rhyme plays today. The props were so beautiful and the actions were very creative. Great job readers! We finished up our liquid science experiment with some conclusions about liquids. We began to wonder about how we could test liquids again. There are so many wonderful ways to discover liquids. Tomorrow we will start a pumpkin inquiry. See you then! Picture of the day: The grade ones and twos presenting their Ocean poems with their big buddies! They were all very creative and came up with their own actions for their plays. The big buddies helped with reading and the little buddies helped with acting moves. They had fabulous team work. I think there were about 10 plays performed and they were all based on a different ocean poem! Thank you Big Buddies.
Please check your child's backpack. SOME students received a letter home about lunch room fees. Thank you to those who have paid already. Contact the school if you need assistance with this. Thanks! Reminder: Library Books due tomorrow. Happy Home Reading Tonight Today we did our experiment on liquids! We tested 5 liquids for smell, colour, feeling, movement, and transparency. Ask your child to tell you what liquids they discovered!
We also worked on our 'sh' words, by writing about sharks, sharing and showing. We are really getting better at our blending sounds! Great job everyone. Tomorrow we are performing our plays with our Big Buddies! Have a great night everyone. See you tomorrow! Also, there is still time to sign up for a few hot lunches if you choose to do that. The sign up is at healthyhunger.ca Thanks! Today was certainly a Marvelous Monday. We had a wonderful time learning about our new star of the week, Dax J, and began writing a book for him. We learned about his passions for hockey and biking. We are excited for his big week.
Today, we started our first official science experiment. It is all about liquids. First, we talked about Science safety and signed a contract about how to act in Science. We also looked at our first liquid together, coffee! We discovered what it feels like, moves like and looks like, including more properties including opaque and transparent. Very, big exciting words! Tomorrow the science teams will discover the properties of 5 more liquids together. We also had Math to end the day. Each math group is working on something different, but in my group we did the number 4 and started subitizing numbers! Yahoo! See you tomorrow. A note from Administration: Dear Families, Starting on November 6, 2017, our school will be undertaking a project called, “Stephen’s Backpack”. Stephen’s Backpack Project is about giving the gift of hope. Stephen is a little boy with Autism who wanted to help all the homeless children of Calgary. He created a project where he, with the help of others, would fill backpacks with essentials and toys for children living on the street. His wish is to give children the gift of hope and Student Voice is going to help lead this project. From November 7, 2017-November 17, 2017 we are asking families to bring gently used toys and books to donate to a Toy Sale. This toy sale will provide the funds to purchase the items for the backpacks. We will store all these items in school during that week. On November 21st, we will have an all-day Toy Sale. All students, during their gym time will have a chance to go shopping for themselves or a loved one. Items will vary in price (up to $10.00), and all the money will go toward filling the backpacks. If you have any questions or can volunteer with setup, takedown or being a cashier, please feel free to contact Brenna Fraser ([email protected]). Today we learned more about 'th' words and how to write them on our own. The students praticed the, that, they. this, thumb, three, there, thorn, and think. Lot's of ths! We also started practicing our reading with the Teach Your Monster to Read computer program. If you want to play it at home, I posted the login/link info on the blog. Email me if you can't see it! Thanks! It is very engaging and educational for them.
We did Pumpkin Art this afternoon by making goofy pumpkin faces. The students made some of theirs looks like pirates too since we have been studying pirates this week. Once I hang them up, I will post pictures! We had a fire drill this afternoon as well! It went pretty good, We just need to focus on making good choice all the time inline. The students know to be quiet and straight we are just learning more about how to put that into action. Since the fire drill was thi afternoon, we were off schedule and I forgot to announce the new Star of the Week for next week. This student is DAX JONES! Please bring 3 things you would like to share on Monday! You know the drill. Have a great weekend everyone. ![]()
Today was a terrific sunny Thursday! We had library in the morning and then went outside with our big buddies for Thursday Theatre. We shared ocean poems with them and in groups of 4, 2 big buddies and 2 small, we practiced our plays. Tomorrow afternoon we will present them to each other.
This afternoon, we did Science. We looked at liquids in our world. In teams of two, the students brainstormed all the liquids they could think of. They came up with lots of great ideas! Our first hockey highlights video was recorded today by Dax J and Rayshaan. They know so much about hockey that we had to do it. This is a one minute video that I will have to post when I get home! The highlights will be worth the wait! We are hoping to do this every Thursday. We will keep you in the loop with all the hockey information you need! See you tomorrow! |
