Just a reminder that there is no school Friday.
The garbage count in our classroom has been going down each day. On Tuesday we had 12 and today only 10! The total for the week will be counted up after tomorrow so let's aim for ZERO garbage in our lunch kits tomorrow. Remember we don't count things that can be reused, reduced and recycled. We have been learning lots about the 3 R's we can use to take care of the Earth! Please talk to your kids about the practices you use at home to be environmentally friendly. Also, please remember to think about the day of the book donations. A letter was sent home Monday regarding this. Here are the details: On Monday, April 23, students will exchange books school wide. For this event, we ask parents to please donate one or two used books that are in good condition. We have students as old as 12 years old and we would like to gather books up to that age. Please send the books with your child to give to your classroom teacher. We will gather the books at the end of each day from April 13th to April 18th. Spelling Test is postponed until next week because of Earth Day and a short week.

Welcome to Earth Week at Rosscarrock School! We are excited to be leading this initiative for the rest of the school. Clayton and Dax B did a wonderful job making our first Earth Week announcement today for the whole school to hear. We are trying to get each class to cut down on their waste! Today we had 16 pieces of disposable plastic or garbage! I am super happy about this! Many kids had ZERO!!! Thank you! The Earth is happy about that. Tomorrow we hope to have even less.
The English Program is having a Spring Concert Next Wednesday at 7pm. Tickets do not need to be purchased, just show up early to get a good seat:) We will be performing 2 songs; one dance song and one instrumental song! Spelling Words for this week are: us use very wash which why wish work Happy Friday!
Today the students did really well on their spelling tests! Great job everyone. We also finished building our catamaran boats and enjoyed seeing how much load they could carry with a single pontoon and then a double. A big theme of today was talking about Growth Mindset. We discovered that when our brains think thoughts like: I just can't do this or I can't make this better or My plan didn't work..... We can challenge those thoughts with things like: Maybe I can try or I can always improve or I can ask for help. We also did art that reflects these new positive thoughts. We turned our self-portraits into gardens that grow flowers. The flowers represent our good growing thoughts!! Next week we will be participating in Earth Week as a school! There is a class challenge which we hope to win! In order to win we need your help! Please don't pack any garbage in lunches next week because the class with the least garbage wins an Earth Day party on Thursday. Use reusable containers or cloth/mesh bags to pack food. Thanks! Today we made our own comic strips in Writer's Workshop. Each student took an event that has happened in school to write about. Some students are even using their comics to talk about Jersey Day which is Tomorrow! Also, tomorrow we have a special performance from A.E. Cross presenting their play Beauty and the Beast Presentation @ 9:00am!
Also, today we made posters for Earth Week which we are celebrating next week. We are trying to have Waste-Free Lunches! That means no disposable plastic bags and nothing wrapped. If you must, unwrap at home so we don't have to collect any waste in our class next week. The class in our school with the least garbage from their lunches next week will win. I am so happy that our class came up with these challenge and get to be environmental leaders at our school. I have attached it here as well:
Welcome to a more Spring- like week! We hope this weather stays. We have been looking at our Spring Schemas lately, and they all include things like flowers, outdoor sports, warm weather and all the nice things in Spring, so we are really hoping to see more 'real' Spring soon. Ask your child about what their Spring Schema is.
We starting making pontoon boats today. They are making them with a single pontoon tube and then with a double to see the difference in stability, load carrying, and buoyancy. This week we will also wrap up our Arctic unit, in order to prepare for our Alberta/Prairie Unit in Social Studies. Spelling words for this week are: right sing sit sleep tell these those upon In regards to the Humboldt tragedy: We have received notification from CBE that the Canadian Flag will be lowered at half-mast starting tomorrow. The topic also came up during Student Voice at lunchtime today Also, students planned Jersey Day for this Thursday to commemorate those who perished and were injured as well as be of support towards the families/community. If students do not have a Jersey, they may wear their School T-shirt (or blue color). I sent home an important letter to the Cougar Ridge families regarding West Springs School for next year. Please check your child's backpack.
Remember that the Spelling Test is tomorrow. Today we conducted research to answer some of our boat questions. We used IPads and Siri to help use search things up. We will continue our investigations tomorrow. Please bring in any Library books you still have at home. Thanks! See you tomorrow. I hope everyone had a good break together! It was fun hearing about all your adventures today. The students did news reports on their Spring Break highlights and even recorded each other doing interviews once their writing was done. They learned a lot during Spring Break!
We are continuing our boat unit this week in Science. Today we talked about what we still want to learn about boats. We hope to build a few more types of boats together in the next couple of weeks. The Spelling words for this week are: goes green made many off pull or read Welcome to a short week. We only have regular school this week for 2 more days.

We are also practicing math games and skills this week to teach our parents at interviews. Looking forwards to sharing our work with you all! WE ARE READY TO CATCH THEM ALL!
We had a wonderful afternoon with our big buddies creating our leprechaun traps. We have all types of traps- booby traps, slide trips, pulleys, slime traps, you name it! They worked very hard and we hope it pays off! Looking forward to Monday to see if we had success. Parent Teacher interviews are available to book through CBE. They are next Wednesday evening, and Thursday morning. Please check that out and schedule yourself for a suitable time. Have a great weekend! |
