What did we do today?
We had a good morning from the HOJA musical crew who sang and danced with-RD We went to gym- CT I did bayblades with Clayton-KL I, with my friends named Dax B and Wesley, completed the awesomest thing ever built- A K-NEX bridge- DJ---- pictures to come:) We had so much fun at school- TW Please see below for Terry Fox information. Thanks to all those participating by raising money, but if that doesn't work for your family- no pressure. We will all be raising awareness just by running with the school:) Sorry I didn't send this out Friday when I send home the pledge sheets but here is more detailed information for you:
The Terry Fox run is fast approaching! School across Canada will be running September 28. I put pledge forms in your backpacks Friday, and today I will be sending home along a large sticker for each child. The sticker has a fill in the blank that says, “I am running for______” Many of the students know someone who has had cancer. If they do not, suggest putting the name of a friend who has been impacted by cancer, or simply Terry’s name. Please return the stickers to me by next Wednesday, September 20. Please make sure to review with your child how to properly fill out the pledge sheets, and have a talk about safety. (I.e., do not go door to door alone, encourage to ask for donations from friends and family only). Also the pledge forms are totally optional. Thanks for all your help with this! I will update you closer to the day with more information too! Please check your child's backpack for their art we did today- based on the book The Dot. The students are quite imaginative and creative so they turned out really well! Also, we are doing the Terry Fox run as a school, so the pledge sheet was sent home today for that:) Thanks!
Comments from the students about today:
Group 5 won because they got the most points for hardwork and having their kit full at the end of each day! GO GROUP 5- RD I completed my bridge and we will test it next week- DJ I had so much fun today- AR My favourite thing today was building a tow truck- KL The best part of my day was drawing a giant roller coaster in art- DB I had so much fun at my school- TW I had so much fun and I am the star of the week next week- NA Safety and Security
The safety and security of our students is our number one priority. The front door will continue to be locked during regular school hours, and all visitors to the school will need to buzz in and identify themselves before gaining entry to the building. Traffic Safety Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times. Pick- up Procedures Students will always be at their designated doors unless they are on the bus. If your child is not taking the bus, or there is a change in their normal routine, please CALL the office at 403-777-8390. The pick up area will be the office if the student is NOT following their normal routine. No student who is not registered on the bus will be allowed to board a bus. Please make note of this when you are arranging playdates etc. Parking Lot Please remember the parking lot is reserved for staff. We do not have enough space for parents to pick up and drop off in the staff parking lot. Use street parking following all City of Calgary signs. When at all possible, we discourage pedestrians from walking through the parking lot as there are staff members and School Board personnel arriving and leaving throughout the day, making it unsafe for pedestrians. Please use sidewalks and pathways around the school. Pedestrian Safety Did you know that according to the City of Calgary Police Service, a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, on average, once every day on our streets. Please help teach your child that motorists will not necessarily stop for pedestrians when they are crossing the road, even if they have the right of way. Motorists must stop for all pedetrians-it is the law. Wait until the pedestrian has cleared the intersection before proceeding and when other vehicles are slowing down or stopping near a crosswalk, slow down and look for pedestrians as well. Bicycles Should students ride their bikes to school, please ensure they have a good lock for their bike. There are bicycle racks on the side of the school to use for locking bikes. Students must walk their bikes on the school grounds. The school cannot assume responsibility for bicycles parked on the school grounds. This message is to inform you that a School Conference Manager has been created by your school. Please note that the start date for parent’s booking is 07:00 AM (Sep 14, 2017) , and booking ends at 15:30 PM (Sep 21, 2017) .
Please follow this link to access the School Conference. Today had a wonderful day because a special student showed off his bridge. His bridge was very VERY strong. It was so strong that it held water bottles, coffee, a kit with animals on top! and cars! We couldn't break it! It was amazing. More bridge building is happening in our class.
We also did science. We learned about volcanoes and rain. Also, we did writing about our 5 senses. The writing was hard for some people who need more practice with stamina, and easier for people who love to write. We are learning that we are all different, with different interests. Tomorrow we will do art and celebrate more learning! We will also choose a new star of the week tomorrow! Have a good night. We had an action packed day today in grade 1 and 2. We had big buddies at the end of the day so the blog is being filled out my just me(Ms Groen:)!
I mentioned yesterday we have a Student Voice committee coming up and I have nominated two students to be in it. Check your child's backpack to see if a form is there. I chose a grade 1 and grade 2 for this. I can not include names in this blog anymore (for confidentiality purposes) but we are looking into initials being included so the parents know who I am talking about without revealing too much personal info. Sooo the Student Leaders are a mystery unless you see the form in your students' backpack! Please check!! Also, ask your child about big buddies! It was a great first 'get-to-know-you' day with them. Its nice to see the grade 6's with the little guys and vice versa- they can learn so much from each other. Please keep practicing writing your names at home and of course reading together! The home reading program will start soon for the grade 2s :) |
