Today we shared about our weekends through our routine of Talking Circle. We have been doing this for a few months now to honour the ways of the First Nations. This activity teaches us turn taking, patience, listening and respect for others' stories. We are getting better at the listening part every week. We also started looking at the Blackfoot Nation and some animal names in their Language. The sounds are tricky, but we are learning how important it is to gain knowledge about our local First Nations people.
We are moving into word families for our spelling tests so this week's word family is -ank. The words are: plank crank stank tank clank bank yank thank Today we did a whole day of Thursday Theatre production. We did animal puppet plays in groups of two.
They had a script to follow and modified the story with fill in the blank options. They did very well with this process and enjoyed performing. After each group they took turns complimenting each other and offering improvement to help each other get better for next time. The also assessed themselves and their peers on a 4 point scale- just like report cards. They were very honest and accurate on their feedback. Good job everyone! Remember spelling test tomorrow. Today we had an awesome time in Science making jet boats of out a balloon and a milk cartoon. They took them home so please check backpacks and try them out in the tub.
When asked what they learned about building jet boats, they said: - It's exciting to build jet boats and drive them. - It goes faster when a bigger balloon is attached just like a big engine works - We learned how to build a new kind of boat. - Blowing up a balloon is hard, -The boats were amazing because they were self-powered.
